Rose is a classic beauty; you can imagine her as a flapper in the 20s just as easily as you could imagine her as a gangster’s moll in a film noir of the forties or as a modern punk rocker’s alt girlfriend. This, of course, is what makes her a star. Her look is timeless and her sexy, sleepy eyes will pull you in whether you’re ready for it or not.
Director Daniel Dakota does a great job of capturing the look and feel of Tarantino’s gangster classic while giving it his own unique spin. For example, Pumpkin and Honey Bunny are replaced by Nyomi Marcela and Tia Tanaka, who start things off by robbing Will Powers’ mansion at gunpoint -- and end up tag-teaming him on his couch after Tanaka spots the size of his shaft. Sure, he gets a lot of his shit stolen, but look at what he got in return. I’d say that’s a pretty fair trade considering he probably has pretty good insurance.
Evan Stone and John E. Depth have great chemistry as the philosophical hitmen played by John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson in the original. Stone gets assigned to escort his boss’ (Mr. Marcus) wife (Rose) for the evening only to arrive and find that she’s OD’d on an entire bottle of designer aphrodisiac; if he doesn’t fuck her in the next three minutes she’s gonna practically explode. So what’s the guy do? He does what any sensible guy in his position would do -- he firmly plants his mouth to the sex goddess’ muff and prays that his boss doesn’t come home early.
Mr. Marcus is also spot-on as the Marcellus Wallace character (here named Lamar Crowley -- a nod to bad boy Aleister?) although he plays him as less of a street-hardened badass and more of a really smooth motherfucker who just doesn't appreciate guys banging his hot wife.
Dakota sends up Tarantino’s movies -- you’ll find nods to a few others if you look -- with style, and he has a lot of fun with the material. And so will you.
