Candy is obviously a foreign film; everyone in the cast has a French accent. Who, then, my friends, decided to have the cast speak all of their lines in English, which is clearly not their first language? Or even, apparently, their second ... or third? Like I said, laughably bad -- but in a good way.
As everyone knows, I'm a sucker for horribly acted porn, especially when it's chock full of gorgeous women.
The plot concerns Claudio and his relationship with high-priced call girl Candy (who'da thunk that someone named Candy would become a call girl?) and whether or not a relationship is in the cards.
The guy playing Claudio delivers his lines in such a stilted and robotic fashion that I was certain his acting coach was William Shatner, but alas, there was nary a mention of him in the credits.
For me, the setup was unimportant; I just wanted to see sexy French chicks with sexy French accents boffing lucky French dudes, and I got my wish in that regard. The sex is passionate and varied; one interesting scene takes place in an old tavern, replete with a classy piano and pianist (must ... resist ... pianist ... joke ... ), and the scenarios in general have visual panache.
In the end, Candy's fun, sexy and --yes -- satisfying, even if the performances are Keanu-worthy and it's a bit cliched in terms of plot.
