That said, The XXXorcist is a lot of fun, too. Fans of the Friedkin original will find a lot to love here, as sexual tensions that were only hinted at in the original are fully played out here (with a healthy dose of green vomit thrown in for good measure).
Regan is an 18-year-old girl who is possessed by the devil. Her mother calls upon the services of Father Merkin, a priest specializing in “sexorcism,†an extreme method of casting Old Scratch from the girl’s body. What follows is a very fun, very edgy take on the horror classic that will have you laughing one minute and puking the next.
Director Doug Sakmann follows the original film fairly well, though he combines both priests from the original into one character. Fans of horror films in general will dig all of the references. The lighting and set design is elaborate and looks just like the original. And while the green puke is nowhere as gross as the blood was in Burning Angel’s earlier Re-Penetrator, there is a lot of it here.
Finally, I have to mention the amazing behind-the-scenes documentary. They go into a lot of detail showing you how the floating bed was constructed, how to make homemade demon vomit and how the prosthetics and special effects makeup were created. It’s as close to a big-budget Hollywood making-of feature that I’ve seen, and it deserves note.
Starring Joanna Angel, Tommy Pistol, Kylee Kross, Spyder Jones and Andy Straub.
Extras: Alternate endings, four audio commentary tracks, the HUGE behind-the-scenes featurette, rehearsal and script readings, scoring and voice-overs, a photo gallery, Burning Angel trailers and Easter eggs.
