This movie runs almost three hours and is based on the classic erotic novel The Story of O, by Pauline Réage. The updated setting transports the action from Paris to Los Angeles. This is a unique creature: an adult movie that's trying to be a legitimate literary adaptation. Does it succeed on both levels? I don't know. Again, I haven't read the book. But I can say that Adam and Eve's movie not only makes me want to read the book, but also to check out this novel's many other cinematic adaptations.
How's the sex? It's hot, yes, but unsettling at the same time. Carmen Luvana plays the title role with enough submission to actually creep me out a little -- and that's a very, very good thing to find in an adult movie. Seriously, it's refreshing to find that level of complexity. The guys also turn in some good performances, especially Evan Stone.
The disk includes the usual slew of extras, but the main event here is definitely the movie. Highly recommended.
