Asia Noir 5: A Lust Supreme

A streetwalker wanders into a grindhouse theater and into a screening of a film called Asia Noir V: A Lust Supreme. In the film, a streetwise saxophonist comes to the big city in search of fame and fortune. What he gets is betrayal and deception when a local mobster takes unusual interest in his girlfriend. As the film unspools onscreen, the streetwalker is seduced by the men surrounding her in the theater.

I haven't seen the first four chapters of this series, but if they're as well done as this one, I think I'll track them down. Writer-director David Aaron Clark populates his film-within-a-film with mobsters, molls, henchmen, and boxers -- everything a good noir film needs, and the production values on display here are impressive. The lighting, camera work and design are all magnificent, and the storyline, though a bit cliched, kept my attention throughout.

Oh, and the sex is pretty good, too, particularly when two boxers seduce the saxophonist's girlfriend in the ring.
