Yes, it sounds like a cheesy, sexed up version of The Real World but, no, it doesn't suck like The Real World. Rather, Village Voice columnist and sex adviser Tristan Taormino's amazing Chemistry offers a rare peek behind the veil and reveals your favorite adult stars in the most human of ways.
It's the confessional moments that raise the film a notch above the rest. Yes, the sex is great -- Mika Tan and Taryn Thomas venture into threeway territory with Kurt Lockwood and it may surprise you who receives the blunt end of the dildo -- but there are some surprising revelations in this film, and it's startling to see some of porn's biggest players telling all and exposing their true selves in such a revelatory manner.
There's a very frank moment with Jack Lawrence shortly after he sleeps with Marie Luv in which she reveals how great of a lover he really is. Luv talks about how much she appreciates the care Lawrence takes with his lovemaking. The movie then cuts to him explaining how most guys in the business have terrible attitudes towards women but how he was raised "with a tremendous respect for women. I'm all about pleasing them. It's my favorite thing in the whole wide world." At that moment he breaks into a good natured grin, and it's easy to believe him.
This film reveals adult stars to be startlingly, emotionally human. That is, after all, why we love them, and Tristan Taormino has captured them at their naked best.
