Setting Up Your Cam Room for Success

Setting Up Your Cam Room for Success

One of the top questions we get from new models is how to set their room up for broadcasting. The key to creating the perfect room is to organize things in a way that is both efficient for you as the model and visually pleasing to your audience. It does take a little trial and error before you can find the set up that works best for you, but here are a few tips to help you get started.

Keep it Clean

One of our top models recently suggested getting a small plastic container with drawers you can keep nearby so everything is out of sight, but still close enough for you to reach over and grab your essentials.

This seems like an obvious one, but you would be surprised at how much of a difference cleaning your room up can make in the overall experience of your show. That doesn’t mean you have to scrub things down with a toothbrush or anything, but just doing simple things like keeping your closet doors closed, picking up any trash that is strewn about, and making sure your laundry is put away can make a huge difference. If you’re not in the mood to clean up, or maybe live in a studio apartment where everything has to be in the same space, use a backdrop or partition to block off the areas you don’t want seen. After all, you want viewers to focus on you, not on the mess behind you.

Keep Everything You Need Handy

Keep all the items you need within reach so you don’t waste time looking for them while you are in the middle of a show. A few things you may want to keep on hand are several outfit changes, any toys you may want to use, lube and any makeup items you need for touchups. One of our top models recently suggested getting a small plastic container with drawers you can keep nearby so everything is out of sight, but still close enough for you to reach over and grab your essentials. This is also a good place to put your drink and any light snacks you may need during a longer show.

Keep Personal Items Out of Sight

Make sure your most personal items are either put away or just not visible on camera. This includes family photos, things that have your name or address on them, and anything that may give viewers a clue as to where they can find you should they want to start looking. A few examples might be things that indicate the town you live in, what college you go to, or even something as simple as memorabilia from a restaurant or bar you may frequent.

Add Personal Touches

Viewers love when you give them a glimpse of who you are, so adorn your room with things that say something about you. If you’re a gamer, put up some posters and trinkets related to your favorite games. If you are into cosplay, hang a few of your favorite costumes in the background and offer to try them on in a private show when viewers ask about them. If you are an artist, you can put up some of your own artwork to show off how talented you are. Even something as simple as posters depicting your favorite films or music artists are enough to make viewers feel closer to you, plus they serve as great conversation starters.

Ambiance and Lighting

In addition to your main source of lighting, we recommend adding some mood lighting in the background as well to further enhance the tone of your room. A few of our models add string lights to the wall behind them, for example, for a really simple way to enhance the mood without greatly affecting the rest of their lighting concept. If you really want your background to glow, you can find LED strip lights on Amazon for under $20 to line your ceiling or even your headboard with. Most come with a remote control so you can play around with your color concept and brighten things up as much as you want. You can also light candles to set the mood, but be sure to put them in a place where they won’t be accidentally knocked over during a show. You want your shows to be fire, but not literally.
