Sextoy.com Throws Online and Offline Parties to Celebrate New Products

LOS ANGELES — On Saturday, Sept. 27, Sextoy.com owner Dave "Sextoy" Levine is throwing a party and you're invited. Guests are expected beginning at 8:30 p.m. and the party lasts until the wee hours. To RSVP, please create an avatar in Second Life.

Sextoy Dave will host two events simultaneously; one party will be held at his Hollywood Hills home and the other in the replica home Levine owns in the popular Second Life online community. Sextoy.com has hosted a weekly party on Second Life for the previous year and a half, but this event is unusual because it also will take place in real life.

Second Life is an online environment created in 2003. Users define and manipulate their "avatars" – digital representations of themselves – that then explore the Second Life world. Avatars interact with other users in a variety of settings that are created by fellow users and increasingly, by corporations and merchants.

One aspect of Second Life that differentiates it from other online communities is the real world cash it generates for it members. By using Linden Dollars, the name of the currency within Second Life, members can use their avatars to purchase advanced features of the site – or merchandise that is physically shipped to them.

Adult companies have established presences in Second Life. Playboy and Bad Puppy are among prominent industry companies to enter the Second Life community.

According to Second Life, the site currently handles millions of dollars in monthly transactions and claims a population of more than 15 million avatar "residents."

During the parties (in both the physical and online worlds) Sextoy.com will be unveiling its Vibrating Rabbit 2.0. Lelo, the high-end sex toy manufacturer, will offer its newest product, the "yva," a $1,350 vibrator stainless steel vibrator. A $1,850 gold yva vibrator is also available. Other vendors expected at the event include OhMiBod that will sell both a physical teledildonic device and its "heads up display" (HUD) program that controls the remote device through a Second Life application that will be available at the party.

The online and real time parties will be simulcast, with a video feed to the Second Life event. Similarly, the Second Life event will be shown at Sextoy Dave's Hollywood home.

“We want to give our customers an outlet to explore their sexuality,” Sextoy Dave says of the events. “It’s a world where you can safely and privately live out your fantasies of the Hollywood lifestyle.”

German television network ProSieben.de will be in attendance at the Hollywood Hills party filming the event for an upcoming broadcast pilot.
