‘Games’ More Searched Than ‘Porn’ on Google

‘Games’ More Searched Than ‘Porn’ on Google CYBERSPACE — Comparisons of search terms made available on Google's latest data tool Insights for Search , show that more Australians use the web to find games than adult content, according to Australian news site News.com.au .

The new tool allows users and advertisers to see which subjects are in the greatest demand and where by breaking down search terms by region.

According to the Google website, the program “analyzes a portion of worldwide Google web searches from all Google domains to compute how many searches have been done for the terms you've entered, relative to the total number of searches done on Google over time.”

According to Insights data results, Queensland is the most prolific part of Australia, in terms of searches for adult content. The terms “porn” and “sex” are more searched for in Queensland than in any other territory in Australia.

A Google Australia spokesperson said the company had not censored adult-themed keywords from the results.

So far the top Australian search terms for 2008 are: "games," "youtube," "myspace," "ebay," "google," "facebook," "weather," "hotmail," "yahoo" and "real estate."

A Google Insights search of U.S. numbers yields a similar result, with “games” beating out “porn” by a sizeable margin.

In the U.S., the top five searches of 2008, in order of popularity, are: “myspace,” “yahoo,” “youtube,” “weather” and “google.”

Google Insights for Search only measures searches done through Google.com
