CinemaNow to Offer Content in DivX Video Format

SAN DIEGO — In another collaboration designed to deliver high-quality video content over a variety of platforms, content-delivery company CinemaNow will now offer downloads in the DivX format across a variety of platforms.

CinemaNow offers movies, TV shows and music videos for download, including a small selection of adult-themed content. Because of this new agreement, consumers will now be able to download this content and play it back on their PCs, as well as other electronic devices approved by DivX, including DVD players and mobile devices.

CinemaNow President and COO David Cook said that DivX's high quality attracted his company.

“DivX offers an easy way to transfer secure, high-quality digital video content from the PC to the living room and mobile devices,” he said. “By working together, we can extend the premium online experience to the broadest range of platforms and devices in the marketplace, further delivering on the CinemaNow mission to empower consumers to enjoy digital entertainment anytime and anywhere.”

Representatives for the two companies said that they would work together to make sure everyone will be able to download all of CinemaNow's library in the DivX format.

Earlier this year, DivX teamed up with a company called CDOne to deliver online videos to television sets.

CDOne discovered that many set-top boxes couldn't adequately handle RSS feeds that delivered video content. They solved that problem to help deliver RSS content to the DivX Connected video service, which also includes a set-top box.
