xHamster to Age-Verify With 1Account

xHamster to Age-Verify With 1Account

LOS ANGELES — For the past year xHamster has been working to find a free age-verification solution for its U.K. users that will protect their private data and has chosen 1Account as a result.

According to the company, xHamster is the third most visited adult site in the U.K.

“With great power comes great responsibility,” said a company representative. “We know how sensitive data around sexuality and adult content consumption is, so we did not rush into it.”

xHamster believes the 1Account AV system is the most convenient and least intrusive of all options, and since it was built for nonadult uses such as mobile payment verification, there is no stigma associated with using it. 1Account does not store any personal user information, does not track any data after age-verification, and like xHamster, is 100 percent free to use, while allowing the user to choose the easiest and most comfortable verification method, including via mobile phone number (EE, O2, Vodafone and Three), as well as a valid U.K. credit or debit card, drivers’ license or a U.K. Citizen Card.

“The verification process takes less than a minute. Once verified, users can choose to remain signed in so that they can access any of the age-restricted sites integrated with 1Account without the need to log in separately,” the representative added. “Users will be able to verify their age using 1Account on a range of sites — 1Account is now open for consumer registrations.”

“We are anxious to educate our users about the new regulations,” said xHamster VP Alex Hawkins. “Earlier this year, a study of our visitors showed that nearly half were unaware of the law. Many planned not to comply. We hope that our partnership with 1Account, with its extensive privacy protections and no-touch data helps people become more comfortable with the law.”

Hawkins said xHamster is embarking on a massive awareness campaign for users ahead of the July 15 enforcement deadline, to help users enjoy as seamless a transition as possible.
