Computer Forensics CLE Being Offered

SAN FRANSISCO — Noted author, attorney, expert witness and lecturer, Frederick Lane, will be offering his popular continuing legal education seminar, 'Digital Dirt: Computer Forensics for Lawyers,' in four Bay Area locations this April.

According to Lane, "Digital Dirt" attendees will develop a working understanding of the critical legal issues related to computer forensics, with scheduled topics including an Introduction to Computer Concepts and Forensic Terminology; Trends in Data Creation, Storage, and Transmission; Developments in Forensic Hardware and Software; Forensic Search and Seizure: Overview of Procedure and Law; Recent Federal and State Computer Forensic Decisions; and The Ethics of Electronic Data.

"Today's digital culture touches every part of our lives, and has found its way into virtually every aspect of legal proceedings," Lane said. "A fundamental understanding of current computer forensics principles has become essential for law enforcement officials, prosecuting and defense attorneys, civil and corporate litigators, family law attorneys, and human resources professionals."

The seminars will be held on April 8, at The Palace Hotel in San Francisco; on April 9 at The W Hotel in Newark, Calif.; April 13 at the Sheraton Sunnyvale, in Sunnyvale, Calif.; and on April 14 at The Portola Hotel & Spa, in Monterey, Calif.

According to Lane, additional dates are being planned for the summer and fall; and this program is also available as a half-day or full-day in-house seminar. Certification for six hours of continuing legal education credit, including one hour of ethics credit, is currently pending with the State Bar of California.

Seminar tuition is $360, with each attendee receiving a PDF copy of the course handbook on a USB thumb drive; a one year subscription to "Digital Dirt" newsletter; a one year subscription to "Computer Forensics Digest;" and a complimentary continental breakfast and buffet lunch.

Seminar seating is limited, and pre-registration is necessary to guarantee a place; although walk-ins are welcome if space is available on a first-come, first-seated basis. Discounts are available for multiple attendees from the same company or law firm and for low-income attorneys in either public or private practice.

Lane, well known in the online adult Internet community, has appeared on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, the BBC, and MSNBC. His fifth book, "American Privacy: The Four-Hundred-Year History of Our Most Contested Right," will be published by Beacon Press in November.
