Q&A: Laura Desiree Embraces Compassionate Sensuality

Q&A: Laura Desiree Embraces Compassionate Sensuality

Before Laura Desiree ever ventured into camming, she devoted years to being a hustling and bustling burlesque performer and nightclub entertainer. She performed her striptease act on stages across North America and during multiple solo tours throughout Europe, delivering what she describes as “that vintage bump ’n’ grind.”

She also directed a slew of boundary-pushing productions for the Toronto nightclub scene. She adored the spotlight, commanding the attention of her audience in a variety of ways, primarily through movement and dance.

I have elevated my camming game by a shift in approach to my fan interactions; I’m a naturally inquisitive person, so I like to be compassionately confrontational with my viewers.

“My career in the erotic arts included practically every hat you could don,” she reveals.

The supreme satisfaction she took in expressing her sexual self, freely and proudly, ultimately led her into more explicit adult entertainment.

“There is liberation in this industry that most of the world refuses to seize for themselves, but their curiosity to explore and seek it out is ravenous,” she explains. “Human beings are forever in the pursuit of pleasure. It’s our nature; it’s instinctual. I like to create for them, to encourage a more embracing relationship to sexuality and desire.”

She has done just that by hosting talk show Naked News, where she engages in SFW banter with numerous stars, and by teaming up with CAM4 — as a cam model, brand ambassador and host of the “Licked & Loaded” podcast. Along the way, Desiree has become a source of community empowerment, lifting up fans and other talent equally.

Now, in this Cam Star of the Month interview, she reveals her approach to going live with a captivating personality, along with her long-term career goals for what has become a multifaceted and entrepreneurial approach to the industry.

XBIZ: How have you evolved as a cammer since you first began streaming?

Desiree: I have elevated my camming game by a shift in approach to my fan interactions; I’m a naturally inquisitive person, so I like to be compassionately confrontational with my viewers. My years interviewing for Naked News primed me for venturing deep into often vulnerable conversations, and I like to hold that space for my fans. It’s not always deeply emotional, but it is always real. I like to inquire about their satisfaction in life, what their desires are and how they go about attaining pleasure. The conversations do get wildly sensual, often lewd and carnal — that’s why I love dirty talk!

XBIZ: What led you to team up with CAM4 and what do you like most about the platform?

Desiree: CAM4 is a platform that has an awareness for the real concerns of our industry, how to set yourself up for success and a community-nurturing approach to mental health. These elements are so essential to anyone along for this journey. The coaching program and the CAM4 Cares initiative were the two reasons I joined the platform. I have had a wonderful experience expanding the branding of CAM4 by way of podcasting, multicam game show hosting, promotional and education content creation and panel hosting.

XBIZ: Discuss your approach to social media marketing and keeping fans engaged.

Desiree: I try to keep it pretty safe for work on my social media. I like to post the occasional nude on Twitter to entice new subscriptions and views. But I’ve had more success in showing less on the SFW platforms. I like to showcase my personality in Instagram lives and story posts that share my authenticity by way of observational commentary on my crazy life in New York City. I like to share what movies I’m watching or what music I’m listening to.

XBIZ: Talk about your content creation and what revenue streams you pursue beyond cam.

Desiree: I’m very active on OnlyFans and Tempted.com. I’m trying to make more time for Twitch streams as they are just so fun; the viewers are so conversational! You can find it all at LauraDesiree.me.

XBIZ: What kind of content, be it live or recorded, do your fans request most frequently?

Desiree: My fans love my live naked tarot readings and my always thematic mix-tape dance shows, but it’s my JOIs that seem to do really well in clip sales.

XBIZ: When you’re not working, what are some of your hobbies and pastimes?

Desiree: I love to kick back and try to check more movies off my “must see list,” which seems to be ever-growing. I love going to concerts, comedy shows and spending time with a good book. I’m obsessed with autobiographies of unique people and I love a good argument around sexuality and our culture. So I have a library full of sociosexual studies, erotica throughout the ages and crazy confessions. I like to write my own erotica and then share it with my fans.

XBIZ: Discuss your approach to planning out and putting on community-building shows like Naked News, CAM4 Happy Hour and Red Umbrella Talk.

Desiree: My goal in all of my projects is to let the truth be told by the people with the experience. I see the wide spectrum of backgrounds we come from. Our diversity is rich and we all have our own life philosophy informed by the triumphant and turbulent transitions in life. I am so eager to learn about how my peers find fulfillment in their day-to-day, how they power through both the small and mighty challenges we face and what we share in our own goals. I like to find where our dreams and definitions of success intersect and I always celebrate that drive in a person; I hope to be instrumental in helping people find theirs if they are without direction. We’ve all been there and we need to share the methods that get us back on track.

XBIZ: Talk about your goals for 2023 and beyond.

Desiree: I would love to continue sharing my unique sexual expression through art in the written form, performance form and in conversation. I would like to host live erotic reading events, be it confessional or fictional. My goal is to continue encouraging our society to explore and embrace their sexual and sensual identities. Maybe a late-night TV talk show that makes these conversations available to the masses. I’d like to build a more ethical and compassionate sex education curriculum for our school systems. I’d like to keep exploring my own desires and what brings me pleasure. Oh, and I really want a rockin’ set of abs, so I’m putting my time in at the gym daily.

Breaking Down AI-Powered Moderation and Platform Safety

Adult platforms, including content sites, cam services and dating apps, consistently face a range of high-risk challenges. These include verifying consent, particularly for user-uploaded content, addressing nonconsensual material such as leaks and so-called revenge porn, and ensuring effective age verification and protection for minors. At the same time, platforms must manage content moderation at scale while addressing payment fraud, scams, harassment and user abuse.
