Juggling Fan Relations at Arm's Length

Juggling Fan Relations at Arm's Length

My “adult entertainment” journey started simply as a novel way to eliminate debt from my life, but after two years of creating content and interacting with fans, I have gleaned some ideas and tips that I hope will bring you value. One of the most important ones is: Sometimes, to bring someone close, you have to push them away a little.

When you say the word “boundaries,” people can react as if it’s a dirty word — and not even the fun kind. But the truth is that we all need boundaries, including creators. Maybe especially creators! Boundaries set expectations and create order. With expectations and order comes understanding and calm, allowing beautiful things to blossom.

As a no-face creator, I’ve sold over 16,500 videos on ManyVids and made it as high as the top 1.7% on OnlyFans.

Let’s translate that from flowery language into real life. Have you ever waited 20 minutes to get a bartender’s attention? We all have. If a place is popular, patience will most likely be required. It’s not that the bartender doesn’t want to get to you quickly; it’s just that there are others in line before you and the bartender is busy. As a customer, you naturally understand; you wait your turn, get your drink and enjoy a great night.

I want to have a great night, and I want my customers to have a great night too. So I’ve modeled the same approach. When someone joins my free OnlyFans page, that person is greeted with an automated message spelling out the analogy of the busy bartender. This approach allows me to set expectations and establish boundaries at the very beginning.

Clearly defining your expectations as a creator gives your customer the opportunity to respond. Will they respect your boundaries, will they test your boundaries or will they walk away? If the person pushes your boundaries, you have an immediate opportunity to hit the block button. If they walk away? Oh well, it wasn’t meant to be. But should the person respect your boundaries, that shows that you and your customer each appreciate the other, which is the first foundational step towards building any quality relationship.

As a no-face creator, I’ve sold over 16,500 videos on ManyVids and made it as high as the top 1.7% on OnlyFans. I’ve done this by being consistent with quality content, being honest and authentic, and knowing that existing fans are just as crucial as cultivating new ones and that none of this is possible without them. That’s why I accord my fans respect, including recognizing some important boundaries on the customers’ end too. While my fans all know I want their money, they know I want their “fun” money, not the money they need to pay their bills or feed their family.

Quality customer relationships cannot be bought or forced; they blossom organically. If you give respect, you will usually get respect — but if someone doesn’t return the respect you give, don’t hesitate to block them. Not everybody who walks into the bar can have a great night. But if you focus on being the best “you” and conduct your business ethically, your fans and customers will notice and appreciate you for it.

We’re all trying to make it in this world in our own way. I’m a big believer that, even in naughty places, we can still be good to each other.

How Adult Businesses Can Navigate Global Compliance Demands

The internet has made the world feel small. Case in point: Adult websites based in the U.S. are now getting letters from regulators demanding compliance with foreign laws, even if they don’t operate in those countries. Meanwhile, some U.S. website operators dealing with the patchwork of state-level age verification laws have considered incorporating offshore in the hopes of avoiding these new obligations — but even operators with no physical presence in the U.S. have been sued or threatened with claims for not following state AV laws.

Top Tips for Bulletproof Creator Management Contracts

The creator management business is booming. Every week, it seems, a new agency emerges, promising to turn creators into stars, automate their fan interactions or triple their revenue through “secret” social strategies. The reality? Many of these agencies are operating with contracts that wouldn’t survive a single serious dispute — if they even have contracts at all.

Building Sustainable Revenue Without Opt-Out Cross-Sales

Over the past year, we’ve seen growing pushback from acquirers on merchants using opt-out cross-sales — also known as negative option offers. This has been especially noticeable in the U.S. In fact, one of our acquirers now declines new merchants during onboarding if an opt-out flow is detected. Existing merchants submitting new URLs with opt-out cross-sales are being asked to remove them.

How to Handle Payment Disputes Without Sacrificing Trust

You can run the best-managed and most compliant website out there, but that still doesn’t completely shield you from the risks tied to payment disputes. Buyer’s remorse, an unclear billing description or even a simple misunderstanding can lead a customer to dispute a transaction. Accumulate enough disputes, and both your reputation and revenue could be at risk.

From Compliance to Confidence: The Future of Safety in Adult Platforms

In numerous countries and U.S. states, laws now require platforms to prevent minors from accessing age-inappropriate material. But the need for safeguarding doesn’t end with age verification. Today’s online landscape also places adult companies at uniquely high risk for inadvertently facilitating exploitation, abuse or reputational harm, or of being accused of doing so.

How to Switch Payment Processors Without Disrupting Business

For many merchants, the idea of switching payment processors can feel pretty overwhelming. That’s understandable. After all, downtime can stall sales, recurring subscriptions can suddenly fail, or compliance gaps can put accounts at risk. Operating in a high-risk sector like the adult industry can further amplify the stress of transition.
