Q&A: Cara Ascends to Newfound Camming Heights

Q&A: Cara Ascends to Newfound Camming Heights

Growing up, Cara streamed on an SFW platform called YouNow, where she gained a cult following. Dedicating nearly every afternoon to the site, she did a variety of skits, from singing songs to performing prank calls based on a backstory devised by her audience.

“I’ve always really enjoyed entertaining people, and streaming seemed like my thing until life got in the way and I had to focus on actually doing schoolwork rather than planning my next live show,” she shared.

Before going into porn, I used to shoot for a couple of influencers and brands and manage their social media.

Cara also appreciated the artistic possibilities that TV offered, and particularly admired the spicy Hugh Hefner reality show, “The Girls Next Door.” So, soon after turning 18, she decided that camming was a great fit for her creative, broadcast-loving talents.

“I’ve never looked back since,” Cara explained.

Despite five years of the inevitable ups and downs stemming from a career in adult, Cara has taken in stride the unfair treatment by banks and government institutions. In fact, she has let that inspire her to get involved in politics pertaining to sex work.

“Before I started my camming career, I could never have imagined that I’d become the president of a sex workers’ rights organization someday, with my thoughts and opinions being printed in newspapers, heard in podcasts and seen on TV,” she enthused.

“I’ve always been a very opinionated person, so when this industry gave me reasons to speak up, I made sure I was the first person to pick up the mic, so to speak.”

Now, with hundreds of thousands of followers across social media and platforms that encompass camming, indie content and SFW streaming, the recently-crowned XBIZ Europas Cam Model of the Year eyes the next phase of her professional future with passion and optimism. She especially looks forward to ramping up her cooking page on OnlyFans and her upcoming Playboy Centerfold platform debut. In this exclusive Cam Star of the Month interview, Cara shares a peek into her life.

XBIZ: Describe your brand as a creator, from your visual style to your unique personality.

CARA: I usually describe my brand as “the Scandinavian dream girl you can’t have!” I try to make my content inviting and realistic, so my viewers get a feeling of closeness and intimacy, while still making the videos and shows just perfect enough to convey that I’m unattainable in real life. I’ve opened up most of my life to my viewers and we often discuss everything from politics to my hopes and dreams.

Building a brand or an image that will be sustainable for years to come is extremely hard unless you keep it close to your actual interests and real-life personality. Lighting and music are two main components in what makes a good live show, in my opinion, so I’ve put a lot of thought into lighting when it comes to my setup and I usually role-play as a DJ during my shows, continually changing the music to fit the mood and vibe of my room. But while I often play around with things like fun lighting, I try to make my personality the star of every show, picture or video, as corny as that may sound.

XBIZ: What are your favorite adult platforms to perform on, and why?

CARA: Chaturbate has been and probably forever will be my favorite streaming platform, because it's so focused on the entertainment aspect of camming, from the many bots and apps to the viewer base and tipping system. While other sites may favor private shows, Chaturbate pushes public shows and thus I, as a creator, can focus on what I’m best at: being an entertainer.

I strongly believe that as a creator, you should always evaluate your strengths and weaknesses, choosing your platforms based on what will work for you. I know I’m bubbly, opinionated and funny — relatively! — thus people enjoy not only watching me, but hanging out in my chatroom.

On a site like Chaturbate, you can actually build a community, and my viewers often form friendships and continue to talk to each other outside of my livestreams. Having not only individual fans but a whole community basically centered around you not only helps give your career stability and longevity, but it makes every show a lot more fun since you can hang out with your viewers more like a group of friends rather than having individual viewers returning for separate interactions.

XBIZ: Discuss your SFW streaming on Twitch and cooking-centric OnlyFans content. What kinds of activities do fans enjoy the most?

CARA: In all honesty, I’m probably the world’s worst Twitch streamer. I mainly play a Ukrainian FPS game that almost no one has ever heard of, and when I played through the story on COD, I cried because it was too scary. I like Twitch, but I’ve never been one to follow trends, so the only people who enjoy my streams on the site are those who already know me and like my personality. I have managed to trick some of them into playing my Ukrainian game with me, and since I’m the only one who knows how to play it, I get to win, which is a great setup for me!

The idea behind my cooking OnlyFans started on my Discord server, where we have a chat room called “Baking, but not the weed kind” where we post pictures of baked goods and food we’ve made. I’ve always loved cooking, and in my family, it was an expression of love. Cooking a nice meal is still a way I show love to others, but also to myself — especially since I’m recovering from an eating disorder.

I believe more people should fall in love with food for the sake of their physical and mental well-being and hopefully I can inspire some people to try out some fun vegetarian dishes.

XBIZ: When you’re not working, what hobbies or interests do you pursue?

CARA: I love what I do to the point that I have a hard time putting it down, especially since I can incorporate my interests into my job. I enjoy gaming, but I enjoy gaming more while I’m live. I love filming, but setting up and filming a custom video is more fun and challenging than filming a project for myself. The only thing I do outside of work is photography, which is something I’ve been passionate about for almost 10 years now. Funny thing, though: I think I’m quite bad at taking pictures of myself! Shooting for other people is more my jam and something I definitely want to set more time aside for in the future.

XBIZ: What is your social media marketing strategy across various platforms?

CARA: Before going into porn, I used to shoot for a couple of influencers and brands and manage their social media, so I’m quite experienced in the subject. However, I am terrible at managing my own! I’m pretty unhinged on social media and post whenever and whatever I feel like, the only exception being my Instagram. I try to keep my page there as clean as possible and make sure to post similar things to what SFW influencers post. That way, I can avoid getting banned and I also get a pretty diverse following, which is always beneficial if, like me, you enjoy working with brands and doing sponsorships.

The one social media platform that I use on a daily basis is my Discord. Even if I don’t post there some days, I always check what my community is writing about, and with channels such as “show your pussy” — a channel dedicated to posting pictures of your cats and sometimes other pets — as well as the aforementioned baking-themed one, there’s almost always something fun to see.

XBIZ: Any industry colleagues or friends who inspire you?

CARA: So many people inspire me that it’s hard to name them all — cliché, I know — but FitSidney inspires me with her work ethic and fun-loving personality, while Amadani inspires me with her extreme creativity and huge heart.

XBIZ: What was it like attending XBIZ Berlin and winning Cam Model of the Year at the 2022 XBIZ Europa Awards?

CARA: I put off going to my first conference for such a long time and when I finally decided to go, I woke up to the news of a global pandemic! So, getting to finally go to XBIZ Berlin was so fun and as we say in Sweden, “Den som väntar på något gott väntar aldrig för länge” — “Those who wait for something good, can never wait too long!” It was wonderful meeting new friends and actually being face to face with people I’ve only seen online before.

I honestly never expected to win, so seeing my name on the huge screen kind of caught me off guard; it was a moment I’m happy to say one of my friends captured on camera. In that video, you can actually see the shock on my face. Walking up on stage, I remember thinking, “Oh my God, who am I going to thank?!” I ended up thanking my mom, my fans and my ADHD, which in all fairness probably are the three main pillars of my success.
