LOS ANGELES — Pure Taboo’s newest DVD feature, “Anne,” is now available in retail stores.
Directors Bree Mills and Craven Moorehead deliver an ambitious re-telling of the classic Broadway musical, in which the eponymous orphan (played by Eliza Jane) turns 18, trying to find her parents and escape the heinous conditions of her transition home.
XBIZ covered the shoot as an on-set exclusive.
“After our first film, ‘Half His Age: A Teenage Tragedy,’ took home last year's XBIZ Award for Feature Release of the Year, I knew I had to come out strong with our follow-up feature for Pure Taboo,” said writer, director and producer Bree Mills, who is the head of Gamma Films. “So, I decided to disrupt another long-standing adult genre that I felt was due for a shake-up: the parody.”
Mills continued, “I chose one of the most beloved, innocent stories we know, and turned it on its head ... taking the often-under-explored aspect of parody as a social critique, and bringing it to the forefront of ‘Anne,’ my dark re-imaging of the 'Little Orphan Annie' saga. To achieve this, I drew a lot of inspiration from musicals, even though the project is not a musical. It features a great cast, several big production numbers, and different sets and settings. Best of all, it is a showcase for the incredibly gifted dramatic actors in our industry, including Tommy Pistol, Kristen Scott, Derrick Pierce and a breakout role by Eliza Jane."
