Chinese VOD Service 'Qvod' Busted for Distributing Porn

BEIJING — Chinese VOD service Qvod Technology Co. Ltd has been busted on suspicion of spreading porn in the country’s continuing war on online adult content.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, five managers of the company are facing prosecution.

An investigation into the accusation reportedly found that a large amount of porn and pirated content had been distributed by the service since 2012, netting the operators huge profits from user and advertiser charges.

Company honcho Wang Xin fled China in April after cops arrested 10 employees, but was later snagged in the Republic of Korea on Aug. 8 and sent back to China. Xin and four other executives admitted to "criminal facts."

More than 351 million users were reportedly accessing the Qvod service at the end of March that included porn "sheltering in the cloud."

The Qvod hit has caused similar services to clean out their porn content.

Since April, China has also shuttered nearly 1.8 million social networking and instant messaging accounts that provided porn and hooker solicitations that included WeChat, QQ and microblogs.
