Rumors about the new OS’s end-of-the-year release surfaced after Microsoft launched a contest to guess when Vista would debut. Kicked off as part of a Microsoft BetaExperience campaign overseas, the contest lets users guess the release date for Vista by clicking on a calendar.
Contestants soon realized that if they clicked on Nov.30 they were informed via a streaming video that their guess was too early. However, entrants that click on Dec. 1 are shown a video that says the guess is too late.
Although the contest is part of a larger campaign for Microsoft users in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, anyone can submit their guess
Officials at Microsoft, as during previous launches, have been quiet on the issue.
“It adds to the intrigue of when Windows Vista will ship but is not representative of a timeline,” Josh Kerwin, a public relations spokesman for the company, said of the contest.
