Blinkx TV Connects With Akimbo

SAN FRANCISCO — Search engine blinkx has entered into an agreement with Akimbo, the broadband-enabled television service with digital-quality adult video-on-demand, that will enable blinkx.tv users to search an indexed Akimbo program database and send programs to their Akimbo Systems for later viewing.

Under the agreement, blinkx will index Akimbo's video database, allowing users of the website, Blinkx.tv, to find and send the programs they want to their Akimbo Player or any Microsoft Windows Media Center 2005 with just a click of their mouse.

Akimbo service uses a high-speed broadband or DSL connection to deliver more than 5,200 titles from 80 different channels to subscribers’ televisions or Windows XP Media Center 2005 PCs on a pay-per-view basis.

Akimbo charges $199 for its Player and $10 per month for its service, plus extra fees for premium or pay-per-view programming, which covers a wide spectrum of content, including adult programs and movies from well-known adult brands such as Adam & Eve, Hustler TV, AdultDVDEmpire, Gamelink, Playgirl TV, TEN Networks and Danni’s Hard Drive.

Blinkx, which proposes to “unify content [across platforms] with a one-stop search tool,” will automatically transcribe and index Akimbo's content, allowing users to find the exact program, movie or news item they want, then download and view them directly on television sets.

"blinkx offers the kind of innovative technology that Akimbo likes to support and is becoming known for,” Steve Shannon, founder and executive vice president of Akimbo, said. “blinkx' automatic transcription will help Akimbo subscribers find their favorite programs more easily than ever."
