Primary: Season 2

Life in an open relationship remains good for Abigail (Ana Foxxx) and Parker (Derrick Pierce). They’ve found a new partner in Phoebe (Casey Calvert), and Parker is knee-deep in writing a script adaptation for his latest book. Things for Eva (Kira Noir) and Jacob (Small Hands) are much more tumultuous as the couple finds themselves on the outs after fully experiencing the true weight of being in an open relationship. Meanwhile, Olivia Flores (Victoria Voxxx) and Joe (Cam Damage) are trying to navigate the choppy waters of their own relationship.

After the overwhelming success of Season One, Calvert’s “Primary” series was destined to return for a second stint. Some of the core cast from the first season returns to further their stories, while newcomers Voxxx and Damage join the stage with their own compelling tale. Again, writers Calvert and Mark Logan showcase their impressive abilities. Not only do they continue the stories of the original cast in an interesting way, but they introduce a new story element through the relationship of Olivia and Joe that fits into the show’s narrative theme naturally. Voxxx really steals the show. She is a wealth of emotion, and it is no surprise to me that she garnered XBIZ’s 2022 Best Supporting Actor award. It’s a shame this anthology of Season 2 only encompasses the first three episodes of the season, because viewers will miss out on Voxxx’s sex scene. They should definitely head over to LustCinema.com to watch the entire six-episode affair.

The story starts by introducing Olivia and Joe, a former couple who have called it quits but still live together because Joe doesn’t have a job. It’s awkward and clearly not working, but they’re trying. One night, while Olivia is playing solo at a local bar (please, can more directors allow their talent to showcase their non-sex skills? Listening to Voxxx play guitar and sing is soothing and adds so much to the story!), Joe brings home a date to their single bedroom apartment in the form of Taylor (Dante Colle). The sex between these two is quite nice.

We meet Phoebe, who like Parker, is a writer. Phoebe has some demons of her own that this anthology deprives fans of since it only covers the first three episodes, but suffice it to say she’s not as happy about her life as a recently published author as one might expect. We learn that while Phoebe is clearly involved intimately with Abby and Parker, she’s also carrying on her own monetarily transactional shenanigans in a relationship with Ryan Driller. Wow, do I love watching Calvert fuck! Her body is so soft, and she gets so emotionally connected to the sex she’s having. When she gives Driller her ass to fuck, her face mirrors the ecstasy rolling through her body.

The final episode in this anthology gives further insight into the complex nature of Phoebe’s relationship with Abby and Parker. As a present to Abby on her birthday, Phoebe enlists the help of a friend (April O’Neill) to be Abby’s present. After a night of merrymaking at the bar, the three lovely ladies return to Abby’s place for some real fun. This is a dynamite pairing because everyone involved is so fantastic. Foxxx is one of the prettiest performers I’ve ever seen, and I’ve always liked O’Neill. This scene is so relaxed too! These three ladies take their time exploring each other sexually, and there’s an unselfishness between them that makes the sex feel like a shared experience rather than one person using another to achieve orgasm. It’s quite beautiful.

From what I saw here, Season 2 of “Primary” is a worthy follow-up to Season 1. The production quality, story depth, acting brilliance, and sexual stimulation all return. Calvert is one of the best directors working in the industry, and she should have a long and fruitful career as a feature creator.
