Essential Books for Cam Entrepreneurs

Essential Books for Cam Entrepreneurs

Whether you are completely new to camming or a cam veteran, there’s no such thing as knowing too much. And if you want to get serious about succeeding in the industry, then continuing to learn and being open to advice and change will be key.

Education is important in almost any industry — and sometimes necessary. If you want to make money, you should treat camming like a job. This helps you generate credibility. Even though there aren’t any specific “cam” degrees, you can still learn tactics and ways to succeed by reading books, researching through blogs, looking into cam modeling experiences on YouTube and even cam tips from models on social media.

Don’t ever stop going out of your way to learn and read, as there’s always something new to learn and ways to improve.

If you are a beginner, reading up and learning about camming and the industry will help you avoid rookie mistakes that can potentially affect your security or allow you to be taken advantage of. Even for camming veterans, books and articles by authors who have also worked in the industry are a great resource, whether it’s to learn more about marketing your brand or managing your cam career.

When you Google “best books for a cam model,” one of the first to consistently come up is “Cam Girl 2.0” by Thomaseli, so I knew I had to give it a read. It’s also one of the most affordable options on the list … the Amazon Kindle version is free! It’s a great, quick read for new cam models and existing cam models too. It took me about three hours to read (I took breaks in between, but it was not difficult to get through at all). The book is interesting as it’s written from the perspective of a customer, so you can choose what information you’d like to take to heart and what you’d prefer to take with a grain of salt. The book is very informative and also gives the reader examples of successful cam models, who are also great resources to look into further. The human connection is an important one in the world of camming and a great point that the writer touches on. Short, sweet and to the point, it’s definitely worth the read if you want to cam on your own terms and connect with your audience.

Another easy read I came across (the book is only $1.30 on Amazon) was “Beginner’s Guide to Becoming a Cam Model” by Haley Anthus. It’s very short at only 30 pages but it’s a great one for new models. It has some useful tips and great information. Although some may argue the points are common sense, I think it’s worth reading through and highlighting points that stand out to you, so you always keep them in mind when camming. This is a good book to avoid making those beginner mistakes which I mentioned earlier. You might learn something you didn’t know; there was definitely a lot that I learned while going through it. This book also has lots of beginner advice that could actually be useful for advanced cam models too.

“Ho Tactics: How to MindF*ck a Man Into Spending, Spoiling and Sponsoring” by G.L. Lambert is another great book for cam models — and all the sugar babies out there. I am not completely finished with this one, but am having a great time reading it. The author is funny and creative, while offering bold but unique perspectives that might really impact the way you think and go about maximizing your financial goals with your fans and viewers.

This book gives advice on how to turn any man into an ATM. It does definitely give advice that borders on playing with people and enticing them to spend money, but nonetheless, these useful tips could really help you make a substantial income. Although the connections you make along the way may be nice, keep your original goals in mind, and if they’re financial, then pay attention and take more notes when going through this read.

A recommendation for camming veterans would be “Thriving in Sex Work” by Lola Davina. The author, who has earned an M.A. in Human Sexuality, is a former stripper, dominatrix, porn actress and escort. It’s a self-help book written for sex workers by a sex worker that draws from 25+ years of personal experiences within the industry. This book offers advice about the life skills you need to prosper in the adult industry, and she brings amazing insight for any sex worker who is looking to improve their life. If you are feeling burnt out or going through a rough patch, I definitely recommend picking up this book (only $10 on Amazon). It is filled with encouragement and has a very practical approach to the adult industry that can be useful for sex workers.

This next book is about the art of persuasion and is one I really enjoyed reading: “Yes!: 50 Scientifically Proven Ways to Be Persuasive” by Robert B. Cialdini. I found this book fascinating because it’s based on research but simplifies it into 50 practical strategies that can help you become more persuasive in your day-to-day life, personal and professional. Don’t let the scientific case studies at the beginning of each chapter deter you; they are worth diving deeper into and help you better understand the purpose of each strategy and piece of advice the book outlines.

My only criticism of this book is that although it is interesting, you may have to push yourself to get through certain parts because it can be a bit dull, but all in all it does offer some great advice and interesting persuasion tactics that can definitely prove useful. If you do get through it, another book by the same author that has some great reviews is “Influence,” another topic that can be useful in the world of adult camming.

Everyone likes an encore and there’s one book that I am not just recommending, but I am telling you to add it to your must-read pile: “How I Made $10,000 a Month as a Phone Sex Operator” by Amberly Rothfield. This is a great read for sex workers across the whole spectrum of the industry. I started this book on a plane ride and could not put it down! The energy, wittiness and fun personality of the author are really showcased in her writing and were a big part of why I had to keep reading and why you will too. A lot of the advice offered is great even for general business and Amberly offers some great tips when it comes to online marketing. This is a great book for the newbie cam girl as well as veterans who need some motivation or have hit a plateau in earnings. Keep it near and dear because it’s a book that you will want to go back to and re-read, as it’s a wealth of information.

We all have to start somewhere and usually learning the basics is a great “point A.” The best way to do this is by educating yourself through other people’s experiences and in the adult industry, reading books written by sex workers for sex workers is a practical way to go about it. These are only some books to start with, but you’ll find that once you are through with these selections, there are countless others that can continue to offer guidance. Don’t ever stop going out of your way to learn and read, as there’s always something new to learn and ways to improve.
