A Look at the Lubes That Lighten the Mood, Add Flavored Fun to Erotic Encounters

A Look at the Lubes That Lighten the Mood, Add Flavored Fun to Erotic Encounters

Sex toys are in the consumer spotlight 24/7, but have you considered the allure of slower, more simplified sex? When was the last time you or your customers turned the action down a notch and reveled in each other’s bodies without the buzz of a vibrator humming in the background?

Flavored lubricants are the ticket to rediscovering passion the old-fashioned way — just a pair of lovers who can’t wait to get into each other’s pants.

Personal lubricants with enhanced formulas are a great way for new pleasure seekers to try a new experience without going to the more extreme adult products right away.

I launched Amor Oral for a few reasons, namely to help people find new and fun ways to become intimate with their partners. We want people to enjoy the experience and try new things!

But we also want couples to get back to the core of their desire, before they accumulated an entire closet’s worth of sex toys and needed only a make-out session or a subtle cue to get in the mood.

If you’ve given little thought to the lubricants section of your shop or online store, we’d like to offer some suggestions to re-energize your lube sales strategy and help reconnect your customer couples like a pair of randy teenagers.

Lubricants put focus on partners, not plastic

Personal lubricants are certainly nothing new and there are a lot of great brands already out on the market. But what we’ve noticed at Amor Oral is that many retailers overlook how lubes can truly connect customers to their partners.

The huge vibrator trend in the adult products industry frankly leaves us a little concerned. There has been an explosion of self-pleasure products, allowing people to get the satisfaction they need without a partner. While we do believe in taking care of yourself, we also want to make sure that people find ways to still be intimate with others and have strong sexual relationships.

While we aren’t trying to hate on battery-powered sex toys, we think there’s something to be said for focusing 100 percent on your partner and their pleasure without being distracted by a huge toy chest. After all, there’s always another night to pull out the toy collection.

When it’s just you, the love of your life (or your lover just for this evening, if you prefer), and a bottle of tasty lube that you can drip anywhere on your bodies, a different kind of spark ignites. We’ve become so entranced by sex toys that we’ve forgotten what it feels like to just enjoy the sensation of skin on skin.

Plastic can be fun a few nights per week, but we think your retail customers could additionally benefit from a little one-on-one time with nothing more than some extra wetness (and a little flavor to boot).

Skip the sex robots and go old-school in the bedroom

Lubes are simple to understand, easy to use, and varied in flavor. In a world of supercharged technology, we think it’s time to put down the smartphones and sex robots and go back to basics in the bedroom.

Buying a lube is a no-frills experience in the best way. Very often, today’s toys are full of confusing instruction booklets, directing customers to push a series of cryptic buttons that command their sex robot to perform for hours on end.

There’s a reason vintage clothing and antiques never go out of style: sometimes, things really were better in the old days.

Not everyone wants or even needs a 20-function, whirling masturbator that connects to a simulated porn star or a triple-penetrating vibrator that mimics that thing your ex-boyfriend used to do with his tongue. Not every client is tech-crazy.

Some folks, especially in the growing middle-age and senior niches, just want to give their partner an extra treat. They already know how to make sweet love, and they don’t need any assistance.

Flavored lubricants add that little something extra without going overboard.

All of the pleasure, none of the intimidation

There’s no denying that we are in a sexual revolution thanks to new technologies and the internet. Because of this, many new consumers are trying adult products that at first they thought were taboo and something that they would never use.

Personal lubricants with enhanced formulas are a great way for new pleasure seekers to try a new experience without going to the more extreme adult products right away.

We have no problem with folks making a beeline for BDSM gear or giant sex toys. In fact, we think these customers would love flavored lube just as much as adult product newbies.

However, there are still plenty of people who have barely popped batteries into a vibrating bullet, and they need a safe, comfortable introduction to the wide world of pleasure products that won’t scare them off before they’ve made it to checkout.

Flavored lubes are the ultimate beginner’s pleasure product. Beyond enhancing your natural sense of taste, lubes leave you open to enjoying the moment. If customers get a kick out of licking a caramel-flavored member or a vanilla-flavored vulva, they’ll definitely be more likely to come back for more (and probably spring for a sex toy or two later).

Flavors are the cherry on your oral sex sundae, and they’re safe for your body, too!

Peanut butter, cookies & cream, apple pie, coffee, root beer, whipped cream … is your mouth watering yet?

Lubricants have come a long way since the cherry, strawberry and peach days of yesteryear.

Flavored lubes were once relegated to the novelty section of adult boutiques, and frankly, most of them tasted like kids' cough syrup. We can understand why folks might be hesitant to spring for a premium lubricant that promises complex flavors like rose water or lavender, thinking they’ll be too grossed out to get in the mood after a taste test.

Thankfully, things have completely changed with today’s market focus on body-safe ingredients and a superior sensual experience. Now shops are fully stocked with flavors that actually sound enticing and taste amazing.

Most people love oral in one way or another, whether giving, receiving or both. Flavoring your partner’s sexy parts with coconut, chocolate or whatever sweet fruits, candies, or drinks whet your appetite is like topping off an ice cream sundae with a big helping of cherries.

Who says you can only spoon a single, red maraschino onto every dollop of vanilla? We hope retailers will give staff an opportunity to taste these amazing flavors themselves so they can suggest a whole evening’s worth of multiple flavors to mix, match and lick off of their lover.

What’s more, customers no longer need to worry about poorly formulated, sugar-filled lubricants messing up their bodies’ sensitive pH balance. A large majority of modern lubes — including ours at Amor Oral — are based on quality lubrication formulas, using only the best food-grade, body-safe ingredients. Food-grade ingredients are key to providing users with the best experience possible.

When I was developing my product line, I sat down with a great chemist and gynecologist to make sure that we only used the best ingredients, and that the manufacturing process provided the best experience for the end user. Now that lubricants manufactured in the U.S. must pass some serious red tape before they’re approved for sale, the same goes for just about every major lube brand available.

No matter how you spin it, flavored lubricants can never go wrong in the bedroom! They only add to customers’ sexual experiences without taking anything away or changing the way our bodies fit together. Now who’s up for some Tutti Frutti-flavored action?

Guiding Shoppers With Clear Pleasure Education

One of the most valuable skills in pleasure retail isn’t persuasion — it’s translation. Customers often arrive curious but cautious, unsure of terminology, functions or even what questions to ask. The goal isn’t to overwhelm them with specs or explicit details, but to describe product features in a way that feels approachable, relatable and easy to imagine.

Turning Fantasy Fans Into New Creature Play Shoppers

Adult “creature play” is no longer just a niche novelty. There’s even a term for this kink: teratophilia, meaning sexual attraction to monsters. A heady mix of sensory novelty, curiosity about unfamiliar bodies and potential power dynamics has made lusting after and role-playing mythological creatures more widely accepted. The erotically captivating allure of otherworldly beings has even become prevalent across pop culture, from “True Blood” and “The Shape of Water” to Guillermo Del Toro’s “Frankenstein” and “monster boyfriend” romantasy literature trending on TikTok.
