Postings for Sex Up, Strip Club Attendance Down for DNC

DENVER— An article in CNET News is reporting that sex-wanted ads have spiked this past week on Denver’s Craigslist page, coinciding with the Democratic National Convention.

On average, 425 posts on Craigslist's Casual Encounters area appeared on the first three Sundays in August. But this Sunday, when tens of thousands of people had arrived for the DNC, there were 763 posts, which represented an 80 percent increase.

Other days showed the same week-over-week jump. Monday increased 77 percent over the average of earlier in the month; Tuesday increased 69 percent; Wednesday's increase was 74 percent.

The article suggested that there could be other catalysts behind the increase of sex-wanted advertisements including universities being back in session, the weather and even that loyalists of another political party intentionally posting fake advertisements in hopes that the democrats would be blamed.

Conversely, strip clubs in downtown Denver are reporting a less than stellar convention week, according to an article in the Denver Post.

Michelle Horning, a dancer at La Boheme strip club in Denver, told the Post that business is slower this week than normal because there is a big lull in customers in the evenings during the political speeches.

"It's just been mediocre,” Horning said. “At the end of the week, it will be better."

Horning said that dancers from across the country had contacted La Boheme hoping to dance this week.
