ASACP Wins Associations Make a Better World Award

LOS ANGELES — The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) has been named the overall winner in the 2008 Associations Make a Better World Awards, an international awards competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and The Center for Association Leadership.

The Associations Make a Better World Awards recognize associations that engage in compelling programs and activities that benefit communities in the United States and internationally in two categories: U.S./Developed Nations and Developing Nations.

ASACP received the overall award in the U.S./Developed Nations category for its RTA "Restricted to Adults" website label.

RTA is a free, easy to use, and internationally recognized label that designates content for adults only. ASACP launched RTA in November 2006. It now has more than 4 million link-ins and 50 million hits to pages labeled with RTA daily.

ASACP CEO Joan Irvine will receive the award at ASAE and The Center's 2008 Annual Meeting and Exposition in August.

"This is a tremendous honor for ASACP and for all of our supporters," Irvine said. "We greatly appreciate everyone who contributed to creating RTA and has labeled with RTA, and of course none of this would be possible without our sponsors' support of our ongoing efforts to create innovative programs to continue our mission. We hope that every company will label with RTA to demonstrate their intent to protect children and their support of ASACP's efforts."

"We are proud to recognize associations that share ASAE and the Center's vision to make the world a better place," ASAE President and CEO John H. Graham IV, CAE, said. "This is an outstanding group of associations that strive to improve the health of our communities, both in the United States as well as abroad. These associations prove that our greater association community can be successful in answering the challenges we face on a local, regional and global scale."

Founded in 1996, ASACP is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating child pornography from the Internet through its CP reporting hotline, and by organizing the efforts of the online adult industry to combat the heinous crime of child sexual abuse. ASACP also works to help parents prevent children from viewing age-inappropriate material online.
