Safe Sex Passport Targets Social Networkers

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Medical technology company SSP BioAnalytics Inc. (SSPB) said it plans to market the online-based Safe Sex Passport.

According to the company, Safe Sex Passport is the world’s first integrated STD/HIV status ID card system, and it is intended for use by members of social networking sites to add a layer of “informational protection.”

"Most people don't know that 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. have an STD. With close to 90 million singles out there, a large percentage of them will be affected by STDs at some point in their life," SSPB founder and President Gonzalo Paternoster said.

"I was compelled to develop an 'outside the box' approach to prevent the spread of STDs and HIV,” Paternoster said.

The announcement of the SSP Card is in conjunction with World AIDS Day, which is held today.

The company said that it will begin offering SSP Cards, as well as Online Health Certificates for use on dating and social networking websites at SafeSexPassport.com.

According to the website, nearly 15,000 users have already signed up.

The SSP Card is part of a confidential and digitally secure ID system that allows users to access current STD/HIV status information via the use of a numbered ID card.

Users must purchase a membership, which cost $75 for six months, and then arrange to be tested at one of the participating test facilities; according to the company, there are thousands of locations nationwide.

Initial STD/HIV testing costs $225 and maybe renewed as often as desired, at $195 for each subsequent test.

Once the test results are received, the card becomes activated and information may be accessed with a confidential password via telephone or online. Soon, the company will offer accessibility also through text messaging.

For users of dating and social networking sites, an Online Health Certificate link to the Safe Sex Passport site can be downloaded onto the member’s profile page for use on any networking site and information accessed using the confidential password.

“The Safe Sex Passport is designed to meet the needs of today's adult population by providing a new level of dating confidence, disclosure and personal health protection, both in person and online," Paternoster said.
