ASACP Tech Dept. to Give Biz Protection Tips at Internext

LOS ANGELES — Representatives of ASACP will provide attendees of the educational panels at the 2007 Internext Summer Expo with the benefit of their technical expertise, ASACP announced today.

Two members of ASACP’s technology department will participate in panel discussions, while ASACP Executive Director Joan Irvine will be on the show floor daily at booth 1110, where attendees will be able to watch video highlights from ASACP’s recent press conference on the Restricted to Adults (RTA) website label.

ASACP’s CTO Brandon Shalton will sit on the Technology Overview panel, which is slated to take place on Aug. 3 from 1-2 p.m. The panel will cover the latest and most significant technological developments affecting online adult entertainment companies.

The Technology Overview panel will be moderated by AVN Online’s Kathee Brewer, and other panelists will include Marc Womack of MadisonAvenue.com, C. Edward “Chaz” Sowers of 69 Secure and Dan Hogue of Camz.com.

Also on Aug. 3, ASACP’s Compliance Director Tim Henning will take part in the “Protecting Your Brand” panel, which will explore how to combat domain theft, hacking and trademark abuse. In addition to Henning, the panel will include attorneys Greg Piccionelli and Rob Apgood, and will be moderated by Connor Young of the YNOT Network.

Else Duff, manager of communications and government affairs for ASACP, formally known as the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection, told XBIZ that one of the central messages that ASACP wants to communicate to government representatives is that the “industry believes that adult content is by adults, for adults.”

“That’s why we encourage people to label with RTA,” Duff said. “We want to communicate to the government that the industry is able to regulate itself.”

Duff said that while there are those within the government who want to force added governmental restrictions on the adult Internet industry, others in Washington prefer the self-regulation route.

“Some people in the government just don’t want to see more unnecessary laws, period,” Duff said. “Every time you write a new law, you put up a wall — and when they come down, you never know where those walls will fall.”

Internext Expo will take place at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa in Hollywood, Fla., Aug. 3-5.
