BBC Censors Pop Singer's Reference to the Other 'BBC'

LONDON — The BBC, the United Kingdom’s national public broadcaster, has censored an online video of a live appearance by American pop singer Sabrina Carpenter, after she ad-libbed a reference to the porn term “BBC.”

During a live broadcast for BBC Radio 1’s “Live Lounge,” Carpenter capped off a performance of her hit song “Nonsense” by riffing, “How quickly can you take your clothes off, pop quiz. I’m American, I am not British, so BBC — it stands for something different. This live lounge is so lit because I’m in it, innit.”

The BBC did not explain its decision to alter the online video of the performance, stating only that “An unedited version of the video was briefly posted in error, and the correct version is now available for viewers to enjoy.”

Entertainment news site Deadline.com clarified that “BBC stands for British Broadcasting Corporation in the U.K., but is also a slang anatomical reference” in pornography.

Bemusedly speaking for anyone familiar with current adult content lingo, fellow pop star Charli XCX tweeted “Sabrina Carpenter explaining BBC on the BBC is so funny I can’t.”
