A Year in VR Porn: BaDoinkVR Releases Headset Market Insights

LOS ANGELES — BaDoinkVR has released its “A Year in VR Porn” report for 2019, providing insights into the consumer headset market among other key usage metrics.

The company based its findings on data compiled from 2019 that summarizes how subscribers access content across its network of sites, including BaDoinkVR and VRCosplayX. The results were published on BaDoink’s informational website, SexTech.com, and besides on VR headset usage, the report offers a snapshot of traffic numbers from various countries, top video categories and top adult performers.

The report begins by noting that throughout history the adult industry has been a trailblazer and key driver of emerging technology.

“Sony’s decision to not allow porn on Betamax was a major reason VHS became the standard format that was widely adopted in the '80s. Similarly, the porn industry’s adoption of Blu-ray was a defining factor that eventually made HD DVD obsolete,” the report states. “Virtual reality is the next frontier, and once again, emerging trends in the VR porn space can provide insight into where the VR headset market is going.”

Key findings reveal Oculus Go as VR porn’s preferred headset, in use by 30 percent of BaDoinkVR subscribers, followed by the updated Oculus Quest at 18 percent. According to the report, Quest is the fastest-growing VR headset by far, and collectively, Oculus Go, Quest and the PC-powered Rift are used by 59 percent of the network’s members.

The report also cites the rise of standalone headsets such as Google Daydream and the demise of cardboard products and mobile-based platforms such as Samsung GearVR, and the low usage rate of powerful PC-powered systems such as the HTC Vive Cosmos and Valve Index.

BaDoink claims 55 percent of its traffic comes from the U.S., while Germany, Canada, Japan and Nigeria were cited for their growth in the VR space.
