L.A. Times Takes Look at Studio 20 as It Plants Roots in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Studio 20 received a write up in the Los Angeles Times today that offered and an up-close and personal look at the live cam brand and its owner, Mugur Frunzetti, as well as its new Vine Street facility.

This summer, Studio 20 opened its first North American facility in Hollywood. The studio offers 14 sets where cam models provide an adult experience to online visitors.

The Times in the piece called Frunzetti “an unlikely porn baron” who operated a flower distribution company, owned an insurance firm and managed a gourmet popcorn company before breaking into the adult live cam industry.

Sixteen years ago he opened his first Studio 20 with a $5,000 investment, and just last year, he told the Times, he made a $1-million profit.

The idea to cross the Atlantic and start up a Hollywood studio, Frunzetti told the Times, was that “people want to talk to American girls; they are viewed as top of the line.”

Studio 20 is growing so quickly that Frunzetti said he needed to expand, both to find models in different time zones who could help fill the 24-hour demand for models and to find more U.S. residents, who tend to be the most popular models, the Times wrote.

Frunzetti told the Times he plans on opening more Studio 20s, perhaps on the East Coast if the L.A. location is profitable.

Frunzetti told XBIZ he was very happy how the article turned out. "They reflected quite accurate what we do, our glamour style," he said.

The article also offers a glimpse of the state of the cam business, with remarks from XBIZ Publisher Alec Helmy, who calls the sector “the engine of the porn industry.” The piece, as well, includes quotes from industry publicist Mike Stabile.

Tori Black, who offers streams on cam site CamSoda.com, also is interviewed for the Times piece. Black said that she used to work six days a week shooting porn but now makes the same amount of money camming and dancing two or three times a week.

The Times also posted a video, titled “Cam Models: Live-stream Naughtiness — for a Price.” It can be accessed here.
