FreeOnes Cancels SnowGathering

DRIEBERGEN, The Netherlands — After a local uproar and a decision by the host hotel not to receive show attendees, FreeOnes.com has canceled the 2007 SnowGathering, which was to be held in Reykjavik, Iceland, March 7-11.

A weekend post on GoFuckYourself.com said that an evening news report had cast the event in a poor light. The headline of the post read, “Attendees Compared to Drug Dealers and Child Pornographers,” and the body of the post cited local news reports calling on police to investigate those in attendance.

The event was to be held at the Radisson Sas Saga Hotel, but hotel officials elected to cancel their commitment, according to a FreeOnes statement on GFY.

“Unfortunately the hotel has not been able to cope with the intense media and political pressure and decided to buckle down to the pressure of some groups who share the opinion that choosing your profession is out of the question unless they support this profession,” the statement said.

FreeOnes said that it did not support or understand the hotel’s decision, but that it was looking into its remedies at law.

“Legal assistance has been sought in this matter since FreeOnes.com believes the cancellation and the consequent financial losses — both material and time-wise — have been carried out without any legitimate or legal grounds,” the statement read.
