Video: Lawley Discusses gTLD Rollout, .xxx

NEW YORK — Stuart Lawley, CEO of .xxx-operator ICM Registry, was interviewed on TheStreet yesterday for a short discussion on the near-term future of generic top-level domain names as well as reasons why consumers might find .xxx attractive.

Lawley told TheStreet's Joe Deaux that the rollout of about 1,000 new gTLDs, which will offer such suffixes as .auto, .florist and .vacation, are inevitable because the "legacy provider," .com, has topped out after about 113 million registrations.

"Any new business that comes along will find it very difficult to find a suitable domain name," Lawley said. "They probably have to buy a very, very long domain name."

Lawley said that TLDs like .xxx, created for porn sites, and others will create a new way for users to search for content by subject.

He also explained the benefits for consumers using .xxx websites, such as better labeling, useful filtering controls, daily virus scans of every .xxx website and, of course, easier searches.

ICM Registry hopes to launch .porn and .adult gTLDs later this year. The registry also hopes to gain the .sex gTLD in 2015.
