Mozilla Seeks Input on Firefox 3.0

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Mozilla, the company behind the Firefox browser, has said it will begin soliciting input from the Internet community on version 3.0 of the application even before the final version of 2.0 is available for download.

To secure input from Internet users, Mozilla has established a forum for a community-generated wish list.

Requests have been divided into categories such as Browser Customization, Enhanced Privacy, Security and Improvements to the Download Manager.

“We are currently in the early development stage for Firefox 3, and would like to collect all the ideas for feature enhancements in a single place,” an announcement on the Wiki forum said. “Our goal is to create a single index that lists what sorts of things we're thinking of doing, with links to more detailed ideas about implementation specifics or concerns, and targets for inclusion in the project.”

According to an Ars Technica report, draggable tabs and the ability to add tags to webpages rank high on the user-generated wish lists. However, there is no word on how many user-generated features will make their way into version

In the meantime, Mozilla plans to launch the final version of Foxfire 2.0 later this month. The company published the “almost ready” Release Candidate 1 version of the browser Sept. 26.
