Google's Android 4.4 KitKat: Technically Modest

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Google has injected a sense of modesty into the built-in dictionary of its new Android 4.4. KitKat operating system, which offers no predictive suggestions for a bevy of “profane” words, ranging from salacious to plain silly.

Not exactly banned, the words, including "intercourse" and "butt," would be more accurately described as “discouraged.” Users of the device can override the suggestive lack of help by simply typing out the words manually.

According to Wired, the filtering system can also be turned off and auto-suggestions for many of the censored words will return (along with a healthy number of humorous incorrect suggestions, like “pizzle”).

Hyper-fast texters of the 21st century may find themselves in a state of discontent trying to rapidly fire out the words “vaginal,” “zoophile,” “pron,” “wank,” “transsexual,” “titties” or even “teeny” and “lovemaking” amongst the 1,400 off-limits words written into the KitKat’s source code.

“I try to Swype-type the word ‘condom’ and I get ‘condition’ or ‘confusion,’” said Jillian York, a spokesperson for the Electronic Frontier Foundation. “There is no context in which that makes any sense. Grow up, Android.”
