The National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications has checked more than 1.7 million websites in an effort to combat Internet pornography, China's Xinhua news agency reported.
The "spread of pornography has been effectively curbed and the Internet further purified," the office announced.
Officials said the office received more than 160,000 porn-related tips from the general public.
China has the world's largest online population with more than 420 million Internet users.
Some 277 million Chinese have Internet-capable mobile phones accounting for nearly 66 percent of all Internet users in China, according to reports.
