UStream.tv Releases Live Video App for Mobile Devices

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Following through on a promise made in January, UStream.tv has released a mobile app that lets users broadcast live streaming video on mobile devices and includes such adult-friendly features as live chat.

The app works with a variety of mobile devices, including many Nokia phones, as well as the mighty iPhone. Adult professionals should note that the iPhone version only works on "jailbroken" iPhones — iPhones whose operating systems have been neutralized — which is a plus and a minus.

On the plus side, adult industry professionals may be able to find a use for an app that lets them broadcast live video all while taking polls of their audience and conducting live, integrated chat.

At least, industry professionals might be able to do that while the app is available for jailbroken iPhones, which by definition reside in the device's thriving black market. In addition, the app only broadcasts to other mobile devices, unlike UStream.tv's first streaming video app, which delivered content through the UStream.tv website. UStream.tv's terms of service prohibit adult content.

In addition, adult producers have two other options for live video on the iPhone: Qik and FlixWagon.com.

Producers enterprising enough to crack the iPhone's operating system, thereby circumventing Apple's proprietary safeguards, can broadcast to these sites provided they check out their terms of service. Qik prohibits "pornographic" and "obscene" material, while FlixWagon only ban "pornographic" material. Neither site offers definitions or standards for what constitutes "porn" or what is "obscene."
