New iPhone App Helps Parents Filter Adult Content

CYBERSPACE — Apple's iPhone has been heralded as a next-gen delivery platform for adult content since its release, but now a tech company wants to help parents block porn on the device.

Tech company InternetSafety.com specializes in porn-filtering and other parental control products. Their latest product is SafeEyes Mobile, an iPhone app that blocks adult websites.

Although Apple has been reluctant to allow another full web browser onto the iPhone for fear of it competing with its Safari browser, tech blog RedHerring.com is reporting that the new app is actually a full web browser.

"Safe Eyes Mobile works by checking requested websites against a massive blacklist of potentially objectionable URL addresses that is updated on a daily basis," wrote analyst Mark Selfe. "It prevents iPhone or iTouch access to pages deemed to be inappropriate categories by default."

Parents can control the filtering power of the app from the web, so there's no chance of a child breaking through the filter on an iPhone.

Last October, InternetSafety.com launched a YouTube filter that gave parents the ability to filter out "objectionable" videos while allowing their children to enjoy the rest of the site's content.

InternetSafety's filters work in tandem with the Restricted to Adults (RTA) label to enhance parental control.

SafeEyes Mobile is not yet available in the Apple App Store. For more information, visit InternetSafety.com.
