Living the Male Cam Model Lifestyle

Living the Male Cam Model Lifestyle

When I very first started as a male cam model, the potential it had as a career was something that did not even occur to me. I was cash-starved, had limited options and had an open mind. My foray into this was out of necessity, not curiosity. In less than a year of making what was still a healthy income, I realized how miserable I was with my day job and started to see that the adult industry was going to be my chosen path.

That was January of this past year, the turning point. So much has happened since then; the changes and growth never end, and I love it. I have learned a tremendous amount, and the learning never stops. My next learning experience is never far off, and some of those are not always pleasant or easy.

Cam modeling is a lifestyle. Social media is an essential part of what we do, and our private lives spill into our public lives. To be done well, this is a full-time endeavor. It is both wonderful and maddening at once.

As a male cam model, we are faced with a very unique challenge by nature of our gender. In general, the fine women of our industry will always be at the forefront. Whether it be for male or female cam models, the majority of our viewers are men.

I use the word authenticity a lot when talking to people. When you are live in front ofan audience, it’s important to remember people are not stupid. In the case of cams, people are not there for porn. They are there for a more intimate experience that only real-time interaction can offer. Being true to your sexuality is very key, as is respecting the sexuality of everyone else. Now for a strictly solo performer, this may not seem that important, and understandably so. The extent of the relevance here is that people need to be honest with their primarily male audience, and not mislead them. In my experience, lying about orientation is probably the most common faux pas. It is very easy to lie about who you are when hiding behind a camera. But it does models no favors, and many viewers will come to doubt a performer, then subsequently move on.

As for working with other people, performing with others, this is even more crucial. Embrace whatever your sexuality is and that will make you most successful. Personally, I identify as bisexual, and therefore work with both men and women. A cam show is not porn. You are not afforded the luxury of making a mistake no one will see in the finished product. People will see everything. They want to see passionate, engaged performers. They do not want to see someone who does not enjoy what they’re doing, or who they are performing with. For male cam models, work with people you’re into, regardless of gender or appearance. It will make for a quality show, a devoted following and an all-around better experience for the models.

I remained a solo performer up until this year. While this is an avenue anyone can take, it’s therefore common. And if it’s common, you cannot expect to immediately reap the most rewards. Solo performers very easily become lost in the endless options of solo cam models. To do well will take an obscenely large amount of time and dedication, as with anything else in life. Remaining engaged with your viewership is crucial. Building rapport and a strong relationship with a fanbase is non-negotiable. But it is important to understand that this will only take someone so far.

I began working with others early this year, and have been regularly offering hardcore content in the past months. I’ve worked with newcomers, established cam models and porn stars. Be mindful that this is the adult entertainment industry. People want what is sexy, and what’s more sexy than sex?! Good, quality sex will instantly command traffic and a following. It is the surest and best way to get started as a cam model, and it is the most lucrative.

Lastly, there’s one piece to this that many do not realize. To be successful as a cam model, understand this. Cam modeling is a lifestyle. Social media is an essential part of what we do, and our private lives spill into our public lives. To be done well, this is a full-time endeavor. It is both wonderful and maddening at once. Time for a personal life will be less than with a nine to five job. For many of us, we love every minute!
