Feminist Porn Awards Winners Announced

TORONTO — The third annual Feminist Porn Awards were presented on Friday at the Gladstone Hotel Ballroom in Toronto. Hosted by retailer Good For Her, the awards honored women adult filmmakers and adult films with pro-female themes.

“It’s getting bigger and wider and more diverse. More people are picking up the camera these days and telling their own stories,” Good For Her manager Alison Lee told XBIZ.

Awards were handed out in 12 categories. This year saw more transgender entries, according to Lee.

Female-to-male transsexual director/performer Buck Angel won the Boundary Breaker of the Year Award and told XBIZ he was proud to feel as if his work had inspired others to make films in the TS genre. He also was excited to be one of the few men presented with a Feminist Porn Award.

“It was very cool of them to honor me that way, and it just goes to show that my work is really transcending boundaries,” Angel said. “I consider myself a feminist even though I’m a man, so I’m very much about women’s rights, and I feel totally honored.”

Morty Diamond Productions was a double award winner for TS release “Trans Entities: The Nasty Love of Papi and Wil.”

Hottest Dyke Film went to Shine Louise Houston’s “Crash Pad Series, Vol. 1,” produced by her Pink & White Studios.

"It is always an honor to be recognized by a community of our peers for the work we produce,” Pink & White Marketing Director Shawn Tamaribuchi told XBIZ. “Shine and our new codirector Shae have been working very hard on the CrashPadSeries.com to create authentic queer cinema that combines entertainment and activism, without missing a beat of the beautifully wet and passionate sex we all like to see and have."

Industry veteran Kelly Holland, who manages video production for Penthouse, won a trophy for her straight title “My Sex Therapist.com: The First Sessions,” produced for Chick Media.

Toronto-based Good For Her also presented a special Golden Beaver Award to Canadian pornographer Bren Ryder for her work with GoodDykePorn.com.

Best Movie of the Year went to Barcelona-based filmmaker Erika Lust for her “Five Hot Stories for Her,” for her company, Lust Films.

This year’s awards event expanded to cover two nights, and on Saturday, the “Feisty Feminist Porn on the Big Screen” film fest screened nominated videos from the previous night’s awards at the Revue Cinema.

“We did things differently this year. We expanded into two nights, with screenings on Saturday — we sold out the movie theater,” Lee said. “That was awesome and a really fun night. So, who knows what we’ll do next year?”

Nominees for the Feminist Porn Awards are chosen by employees and staff of Good For Her, located at 175 Harbord Street in Toronto.
