LOS ANGELES — Smash Pictures on Tuesday announced plans to shoot a parody of the second volume of the national literary sensation Fifty Shades of Grey.
Smash VP Stuart Wall confirmed that his company is in pre-production on "50 Shades Darker XXX Parody," which will be directed by Jim Powers.
"With our success in shooting parodies, we’re now diving into the book parodies of Romance," Wall said. "Another studio already announced they're shooting the first book Fifty Shades of Grey. Instead of jumping on the same script, for the month of June we’re diving head first in shooting Volume 2 titled '50 Shades Darker XXX Parody.'"
Wall said the parody would recount the romantic tale while incorporating bondage/S&M just like the book.
Powers recently did the videography for Soma Snakeoil's bondage film "Rubber Bordello."
Smash will begin casting for "50 Shades Darker" next month. The book is the second of the trilogy written by E.L. James. Fifty Shades of Grey is the New York Times' bestselling erotic fiction paperback. The kinky story revolves around the complex relationship between college graduate Anastasia Steele and a young business magnate, Christian Grey.
