Can't Afford An iPhone?

LOS ANGELES — Apple's iPhone has sent shockwaves across the adult and mainstream industries, but what is an enterprising techie to do if the hot gizmo is too expensive?

The 3G iPhone hits stores on Friday, but a host of imitators and competitors have either already gone on sale or are ready to challenge Steve Jobs' latest innovation.

Time magazine recently reported that direct web access from the iPhone will allow users to access any web content without requiring approval of the telephone service provider. That means that consumers can find adult content online without having to worry about the social views of their service provider.

But despite the iPhone's plentiful features, sleek design and overall cool-factor, it's missing a few things. For example, instant messaging addicts still can't send or receive pictures taken with the iPhone's camera. In addition, the iPhone's camera only takes still photographs, not video, and there's no support for voice recording, either. The iPhone's Bluetooth capabilities only support a headset — users still can't move files on or off their iPhone using a Bluetooth connection.

With that in mind, here are three reasonably priced alternatives to the iPhone, some of which offer features it lacks.

LG Voyager
Price: $199

The LG Voyager's main appeal is Verizon Wireless' VCast Video Service, which offers content from a variety of TV channels like Comedy Central, CBS and ESPN, and while it doesn't offer any adult channels yet, users can buy music directly over Verizon's cellphone network.

LG Dare
Price: $250

This LG phone also offers service from Verizon Wireless, as well as features sure to appeal to adult professionals: a 3.2 megapixel camera and an embedded camcorder.

Samsung Instinct
Price: $129.00

This phone offers most of the same features as the iPhone – a touchscreen with an icon-based interface – but once again, the main appeal in this iPhone alternative is a built-in camcorder and access to provider Sprint's mobile TV service.
