Talk Back: The Global Market

Recently, XBIZ World Magazine asked several industry players "Outside of the U.S. and Canada, what countries do you draw the most customers from? What does your company do to draw customers from markets outside of North America?"

Here's what they had to say:

Australia and the U.K. are our top performers, country-wise. WebcamCash is now actively looking into expanding into different markets as we are currently translating the site into five different languages. Being a cam site where model interaction with the user is key to our success, we are facing a whole new set of unique problems that only happens to cam sites. There is much more involved that translating some text on a tour. Having a user on a Spanish translated version of our site then getting sent to a American girl because she put Spanish as her spoken language in her profile so she can get as many shows as possible is a problem. It would take some policing, for example.

— Derek Smout, Head Account Executive, WebcamCash

Since we are a new affiliate program, our primary focus has been English-speaking countries. That being said, our top non-English market is easily Germany. A high percentage of our German traffic is driven by banner ads and placements on adult networks and TGP postings which focus on those regions. Germany has one of the world's largest economies, and the market has a high demand for adult content. Also, because of relatively low credit card penetration throughout Germany, we offer alternative billing methods to credit cards, ensuring we take full advantage of a great German marketplace.

— Janell Hauser, Affiliate Manager, XMoney.com

About 50 percent of our subscribers are in the U.S. and Canada. Fifteen percent of our subscribers are in the U.K. About 9 percent are in Australia, and about 6-7 percent are in Germany. About 3 percent are from France, and the rest all around the world. It's really global with our members, who come from over 100 countries in all.

— Joanne Mason, Vice President, G Media Pty. Ltd. (AbbyWinters.com)

For us, the U.K. is the answer, followed by Australia, France and Germany. We have many U.K. girls as models, as well as all other nations, so you can always find what you like — whether it's a French girl, Thai girl or Russian. We also have the site translated in French and German, so that helps. For us, it's mostly about having 1,200 girls live every night with a huge variety and placing banners on foreign sites — hundreds of them.

— Yuval Kijel, Special Product Consultant, ImLive.com

A great deal of our customers come from a variety of countries in Europe. We also get a significant number of customers from Japan. We have affiliates from around the world, and they have been instrumental in helping us to develop a customer base in their respective countries. We have also experimented with offering tours and join pages in local languages, and are currently developing a full program of languages that will be rolled out in mid-year.
