Video Contest Asks ‘Meaning of Yappo’

VAN NUYS, Calif. — Video-on-demand provider Yappo.com is hosting a contest for users to help the company decide the meaning of Yappo.

“We're sick of people asking us the meaning of our name, so we thought we'd let our customers come up with the answer,” said Liam Colins, operations manager for Yappo.com.

“The team here at Yappo is excited about the contest. We've spent many hours discussing the name and we always enjoy having people share their guesses at shows and other events. This is a fun and entertaining way to poke fun at ourselves while getting some additional exposure for the brand,” Colins said.

The company is asking contestants to create short videos explaining the meaning of Yappo, and then upload them onto the contest page at YouTube.com. Participants must also email the links to their videos to contest@yappo.com.

Submissions will be accepted from now until Jan.1, and the videos that get the most views up until Jan. 15 will win an assortment of prizes including the grand prize of an Ultra Sharp 3007WFP-HC 30" widescreen flat panel LCD monitor. Other winners will be awarded iPods.

Contest rules are:

  • All contestants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Videos must be 30 seconds to 3 minutes long.
  • Must show the Yappo.com name twice for a combined: 10 sec.
  • The name must be said at least once.
  • Videos must be softcore in nature, no cussing or nudity.
  • Derogatory videos will be disqualified.
  • All videos must be submitted by Dec. 29 at 11:59 p.m.
  • All videos become property of Yappo.com.
  • Yappo.com is not liable for any copyright infringement, so avoid using brands and trademarks.
