Blinkx.com Unveils New Targeted Text Ads for Viral Videos

LONDON — Adult webmasters have a new way to make money with their viral videos.

Viral video search engine Blinkx.com has launched a new advertising network called AdHoc that will let webmasters add targeted text ads to viral videos from virtually any site, including YouTube, Google and MySpace.

All webmasters have to do is add the Blinkx code to the embed code for their viral video at the Blinkx AdHoc website. In addition, webmasters can position the text ads right above or on top their videos. Blinkx offers webmasters a 50 percent revshare on videos.

A quick test of the AdHoc system revealed that adult videos in a general niche produce targeted adult ads, but more specific niches produce no ads.

Blinkx CEO Suranga Chandratillake told XBIZ that they plan to continue adding advertisers to expand their pool of possible targeted ads.

"Blinkx has no limitations on advertisers at this stage but will keenly monitor what sites actually use the system and ensure the Blinkx ad network fits," Chandratillake said.

Chandratillake also said that Blinkx has no plans to let webmasters control which ads appear on their videos.

"At this stage, the process is entirely automatic," he said.

Blinkx lets surfers search for content from most viral video websites. According to Chandratillake, the Blinkx search engine scours hundreds of thousands of viral sites for results.
