NewLine.com Hosts Boogie Night

RESEDA, Calif. — New Line Cinema celebrated the relaunch of NewLine.com by hosting "Boogie Night in the Valley" on Saturday night. The event featured a special showing of New Line’s 1997 Oscar-nominated film “Boogie Nights,” director P.T. Anderson’s homage to the adult industry of the late ‘70s.

Organizers of the event extended a special invitation to the cast of SexZ Pictures’ “The Real Boogie Nights,” an X-rated parody released in June and directed by adult performer Kurt Lockwood.

“It’s an amazing amount of fun,” Lockwood told XBIZ. “I just saw one of my idols, P.T. Anderson. We were invited to be here and I think it’s great for the industry. I wish there was more fun like this in our industry. We’re ready to shake our ‘bootay.’”

Anderson was there for the festivities and was presented with a copy of “The Real Boogie Nights” by its co-star, adult performer Jack Lawrence.

“I just got it. I haven’t seen it yet and I want to see it,” Anderson told XBIZ, holding onto the DVD as he signed souvenir posters for several fans. “It’s great. I think it’s wonderful and I’m anxious to see it.”

Other cast members of the adult version in attendance included Ron Jeremy, Tee Reel and James Bartholet. Also in the audience were Belladonna with husband Aiden, Dino Bravo, Veronica Rayne, Megan Monroe and Miss Kitty.

Jeremy was a consultant on the original movie and spoke briefly to Anderson during the screening.

Open to the public, approximately 500 people gathered at an original location site from the movie, in the parking lot of the Kessab Banquet Hall at 18407 Sherman Way, in Reseda.

A huge inflatable movie screen showed ‘70s disco film trailers before the movie while foot-long hotdogs were sold — a sly reference to the movie’s lead character Dirk Diggler and his physical attributes. The prosthetic member worn by actor Mark Wahlberg, who played Diggler, was on display.

“This is so much fun,” performer Belladonna told XBIZ. “Just like in the old days when you’d go to a drive-in.” She confessed that her husband has watched “Boogie Nights” hundreds of times and insisted on them being at the event.

Following the acreening, a disco after-party was hosted at the banquet hall. Mainstreamers mixed with adult stars while treated to a sit-down dinner and beverages sponsored by Dewar’s.

“Horror porn” director Eli Roth, whose movie “Hostel II” was released last month, was seen chatting with Tee Reel. Many in the crowd were dressed in ‘70s-themed attire while a soundtrack of disco hits played. Jeremy was toasted by a table of partygoers, as the other adult performers happily posed for photos.

“It was fun to see [the film] out on a regular Saturday night,” Reel said. “As an adult performer, you see parallels. It puts things into a more humanistic perspective. We enjoyed it.”

Mainstreamers Kevin Kelleher and Ryan Corrigan networked the crowd. Their Internet series titled “Quantum Boggs” is based on the premise of Boston Red Sox third baseman Wade Boggs traveling back in time to help Miami Dolphin quarterback Dan Marino win Superbowl XVIIII. NBC has expressed interest in the project, according to Kelleher.

Kelleher said he has been in touch with adult actress Courtney Cummz for a possible role on the series and he seemed excited at the prospect of approaching Ron Jeremy.

Kelleher also confessed to enjoying vintage adult movies of the ‘70s.

“There’s a plot and then they get to the sex scenes,” Kelleher said. “Bad dialogue, campy scenes and bad action where you’re kicking down doors — I love it. It’s awesome stuff.”
