AVN Online Editor Tom Hymes to Step Down

CHATSWORTH, Calif. — Tom Hymes resigned Monday as editor of AVN Online, effective April 1.

“This has been a move of my own making,” Hymes told XBiz. “This hasn’t been an easy decision for me. [But] I’m not ready to leave the industry.”

Parent company Teddy Communications Inc. did not immediately comment on a successor to Hymes.

Hymes entered the adult industry as an AVN Online staff writer in May 1999, when the sister publication of AVN was launched. He has been AVN Online’s chief editor from July 2002 until the present.

AVN Online magazine relaunched in January with a new layout, as well as an industry party at Internext. Its website also relaunched last May.

Asked about his future, Hymes said he hopes to continue to write for AVN or AVN Online in a freelance capacity.

“I also have several business proposals in the works — one that intersects mainstream and adult,” he said.

Hymes said he will be attending the Phoenix Forum.
