Playboy Expands European Wireless; U.S. Is Next

NEW YORK — Playboy Enterprises Inc. entered into a distribution deal with 1633SA on Monday to roll out wireless Playboy content in Spain and Portugal.

In a related announcement Monday, Playboy also said it will announce a wireless distribution deal in the United States in the next three months.

With the addition of Spain and Portugal, Playboy is now offering wireless entertainment services through licensees in 15 countries around the globe including Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Hong Kong, Australia and Brazil.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We believe there is a huge opportunity in the wireless arena and we will continue to focus our efforts on international expansion," said Randy Nicolau, president of Playboy Online.

Wireless customers in Spain and Portugal will have the option to download wallpaper images, multimedia messaging service content and wireless games while having access to still photos and video clips from Playboy's archives.

Adult publisher 1633SA owns NewLook, Lui and Femme Pratique in France, as well as a number of adult websites.

The Paris-based company is also a long-time partner of Playboy Enterprises. It distributes wireless Playboy content in France and publishes both the French edition of Playboy magazine and the website Playboy.fr.

New York-based Playboy Enterprises owns Playboy.com, as well as Playboy Cyber Club, PlayboyNet, PlayboyNet Espanol and SpiceNet, PlayboyStore.com and PlayboyAuctions.com. It also owns gambling sites for non-U.S. residents at www.playboy.com/gaming.
