NEW YORK — Sexual wellness retailer Babeland and reproductive health resource Bedsider have launched a new partnership aimed at tackling the spread of sexual health misinformation across social media.
"As more young people turn to platforms like TikTok and Instagram for answers about contraception, fertility, safe sex, and pleasure, they’re often met with advice that is misleading, incomplete, or rooted in stigma," said a company rep. "Together, Bedsider and Babeland are launching a new awareness campaign designed to push back against these viral myths and replace them with clear, medically accurate information people can actually trust."
The campaign will combat some of the most persistent false claims circulating online about birth control, sexual health, and fertility. Babeland and Bedsider aim to debunk such misinformation to help the public make smarter, more informed choices regarding sexual health.
"While it’s incredible to see more people talking openly about sexual health and pleasure, more content doesn’t always mean better information," warned Lisa Finn of Babeland. "When social media becomes the main resource for info, it can turn into a game of telephone where details get lost, skewed, or even become dangerously wrong as they are passed along. We’re so excited to be teaming up with Bedsider to make sure that information about pleasure, sexual health, birth control, and our bodies is rooted in facts, accessibility, and inclusivity — not opinions, rumors, or shame."
Joely Pritzker, the senior director of health care at Power to Decide, also enthused about the partnership.
"Social media is increasingly the first place people turn for sexual and reproductive health information—making it critical to combat misinformation and expand access to accurate, trusted resources. At the same time, we know young people also want that information to come from sources they trust. Through our partnership with Babeland, we’re meeting more people where they are with person-centered resources and tools that empower them to confidently take control of their sexual health.”
