Artist Mikel Ibarra to Moderate #SexTalkTuesday

BOSTON — Artist Mikel Ibarra will serve as guest moderator for this week’s edition of the Twitter-based chat show #SexTalkTuesday to discuss the mingling of art, sexual self-image, self-acceptance and pleasure, from 5-6 p.m. (PST).

Ibarra uses “hand sculpted desserts as her medium to explore the paths between empowerment, acceptance, sexuality and objectification,” said a rep. “Her life has followed a curving path from artist to wife and mother, to public school art teacher, to baker — and finally back to artist.”

“Ultimately it was the process of spending hours in the kitchen seeking perfection in baking that awakened her inspiration,” the rep added.

Ibarra added, “I wanted to tackle my feelings about the proverbial ‘woman’s place' and pie proved to be the perfect symbol to begin this exploration. The vulva is a source of pleasure and portal of life while also being a source of shame and fear; like pie, it’s often treated as a consumable commodity.”

"It’s such a treat, literally and figuratively, to have Mikel Ibarra share her art and insights with [our] community,” said Angie Rowntree, founder of Sssh.com and producer of #SexTalkTuesday. “Her unique creations are statement pieces unlike any other we’ve ever seen, and this discussion is bound to go in many interesting directions.”
