Mayo Clinic Wins IP Arbitration, Becomes Owner of 'MayoPorno.com'

ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Mayo Clinic, one of the world’s most prestigious medical centers, won an IP case against a Peruvian webmaster and is now the owner of the website “MayoPorno.com.”

According to the Beckers Health IT news site, the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research alleged before the National Arbitration Forum that “its name was being used to divert people to a pornographic website.”

The foundation claimed the domain name “was being used in bad faith to direct people to a website composed of sexually explicit images and links to adult content."

A Forum panelist ordered the transfer of the domain name to the foundation on Monday.

The Peruvian webmaster did not respond to the complaint, although it is entirely possible to make the case that the domain name referred to mayonnaise or the month of May (in Spanish) instead of the Midwestern health center.
