HBO Max Orders Comedy Series Set in World of Erotic Magazines

LOS ANGELES — An HBO Max half-hour comedy titled "Minx," described as being set in the 1970s about the creation of the first erotic magazine for women, has been given a 10-episode order.

"HBO Max is ready to explore the world of pornography," quipped the Hollywood Reporter.

Ophelia Lovibond ("Elementary") and Jake Johnson ("New Girl") star as "a young feminist" and "a low-rent publisher," respectively, in the Lionsgate television series from showrunner Ellen Rapoport, exec producers Paul Feig and Dan Magnante and pilot director Rachel Lee Goldenberg.

"Minx" was first picked up to pilot in February 2020.

"I’m so grateful to Feigco, Lionsgate and HBO Max for seeing the potential in this story from the first time I showed up in their offices with stacks of '70s porn magazines," Rapoport told the Hollywood Reporter. "Making 'Minx' with our ridiculously talented cast was a dream come true and I’m just thrilled that I get to do it again."

The cast includes Michael Angarano, Jessica Lowe, Oscar Montoya, Lennon Parham and Idara Victor.

"We fell in love with Ellen’s trunkful of male nudie magazines and her amazing vision for this funny and liberating series the second we heard it and knew we needed a bold network partner to let us bring it to the screen as honestly as possible," noted Feig.

The "Minx" pickup follows the recent announcement that Maitland Ward will headline and co-produce mainstream comedy series "The Big Time" built around her central role as an adult superstar trying to save a waning film studio on the brink of collapse.
